Math Manipulatives

First up: Frog Ropes

I have a TON of these little plastic frogs in my room.

They can sit on these logs. The kids love using these!

We got these with a math kit our school bought, but you can also buy them here

I took my extra frogs and put them on some craft laces (you can buy a pack of laces at Lakeshore)

These could be used to figure out different number combinations, or you could use them like a simplified abacus to figure out addition/subtraction problems.

Next: Number Bracelets

I was browsing through Pinterest awhile back when I saw these...

Very cool! You can buy them at Lakeshore, but I decided to make my own.

I already had LOTS of beads in my classroom from when we did our patterning unit. I picked up some binder rings from Office Max, and voila! Homemade number bracelets. I used my husband's electrical tape (or you could use masking tape or duct tape) to add the numbers.

I am going to use these for when we learn number combinations.

Little Minds at Work made a freebie that goes PERFECTLY with these! You can download one for the numbers 3-10.

Click on the picture to take you to her site! She has some other great stuff as well, so make sure you take a look around!

  5. Love the bead counting! We use pipe cleaners as well and it's such a great way for the little ones to practice! The metal rings are fabulous!
